I jumped out of bed Monday morning at 5 am thinking about …coffee? Nop, surprisingly that was later… but instead about shoes…This really isn’t routine for me (the 5 am part anyways) and well let’s just be honest, when I do have to get up before the crack of dawn, I simply roll out of bed, there’s never any jumping involved. So back to the shoe part, my first thought this morning was I need boots, maybe even steal toed boots! Do girls even where steal toed boots? I’m not sure. And this was going to be a problem….being that I have no real boots, much less steal toed anything….. I have tennis shoes (and don’t let those fool you, I don’t play tennis by any means!) Why do I need boots you ask? Weeellll because I was going to the country—and excitedly so! Midkiff Tx to be exact….”where there is no stop sign”…and if you blink I truly think you could miss it. (I’m not making fun of you Midkiff, I LOVE small towns and I love the country!) So on my way down I- 20 I thought this is an opportune time to listen to some good country music ….you know to set the mood. So I turn the radio up….I don’t know, is it me or does music just sound 10 times better when your driving down the highway and it’s dark? Somewhere inbetween Rankin highway & CR 300 the song “ Take the back road” comes on, you know the song that says “And it makes me wanna take a back road…Makes me wanna take the long way home” or the best part ….”If I’m gonna hit a traffic jam, Well it better be a tractor man.” If that doesn’t get you in a country mode I don’t know what will.. ha.
So I reach my clients home, and I’m sitting there thinking how peaceful it is out in the country and how nice it would be to live somewhere outside the city….but in the back of my mind lingers..are these tennis shoes really gonna do the job, you know in case we ran into some sort of wild animal….will my toes be safe? ha. Eh, stop being so paranoid, you’ll be fine……
And we were fine…even though we ran into this lovely little baby rattler…no less the very first location we go to. Thankfully the snake seemed to be sleeping, and thankfully we had someone with us that knew what to do (thank you!)….because I calmly looked around and there were no trees to climb, and the only other thing I know to do is to stop… drop… rolll, and well I just don’t think that would have helped! I clearly need to work on that country girl inside of me! But that’s ok, I still love the back roads, and I still love the country …..and I loved this session….it made me want to take the back roads, and take the long way home more often. They truly were the sweetest family….and I enjoyed our adventure all around Midkiff! Here is just a few from the session….
P.S. The flower is a cotton blossom, who knew they were this pretty and pink?
